Who N is
N is one of three disassembly drones sent to Copper 9 to wipe out the worker drones, and the only one who is sorry about it. He is polite, eager and easily distracted, and when Uzi blows his head off with her railgun he comes back with a crush instead of a grudge.
He was not built a killer. At Elliott Manor he was one of the drones Tessa rescued from the dump, until Cyn, under the Solver, rebuilt him with wings and acid and sent him and his squad to end the humans. His memories of that were taken, and getting them back is most of his story.
What happens to N
Manga spoilers, through the last chapter.
In Mass Destruction it is N who cuts off “Tessa’s” head when she attacks Uzi, which is how the show reveals that Tessa has been Cyn wearing her body all along. Uzi throws him to safety with Cyn's ship key before she falls into the core.
He survives the finale. He and V knock J into a chasm, he catches Uzi as she falls back to the planet, and the last scenes have him living in the bunker with Uzi and V.
