Who Kakashi is
Kakashi is the teacher who shows up late with a book of adult fiction and turns out to be the most dangerous man on the team. As a child he lost his father, his teammate Obito, who gave him the Sharingan as he died, and then Rin. He grew up into a jonin who copies any jutsu he sees and never lets anyone see his face.
He invented the Chidori. He teaches Team 7 that a ninja who abandons the mission is scum, and one who abandons a friend is worse.
What happens to Kakashi
Manga spoilers, through the last chapter.
He learns that Obito is alive and behind the Akatsuki, and fights him. He loses the Sharingan in the war and briefly gains both of Obito's Mangekyou. After the war he becomes the Sixth Hokage, then hands it to Naruto. Kakashi is alive at the end of the manga.

- Obito Uchiha, his teammate, gave him his left eye as he lay dying in the Third Great Ninja War. Kakashi is not an Uchiha, so the eye is always on and drains him.
- Does Kakashi become Hokage?
- Yes, the Sixth, after the war, until Naruto takes over as the Seventh.
- What is under Kakashi's mask?
- A normal face with a small mole. The manga shows it once, in an extra, after seven hundred chapters of jokes.
- Does Kakashi die in Naruto?
- He dies once, against Pain, and is brought back when Nagato revives the village. He is alive at the end of the manga.
