Who Naruto is
Naruto is the orphan the village hated, because the Nine-Tails that nearly destroyed it was sealed inside him the night he was born. He answers that by being loud, failing the academy exam three times, and promising to become Hokage so nobody can ignore him again.
What he has is stubbornness, a bottomless supply of chakra, and the Shadow Clone Jutsu, which he turns from a forbidden trick into his whole style. He learns the Rasengan from Jiraiya, Sage Mode from the toads, and, in the end, how to work with the fox instead of against it.
The story is about him refusing to give up on people: Sasuke most of all, but also Gaara, Nagato, and the village that raised him badly.
What happens to Naruto
Manga spoilers, through the last chapter.
He learns who his parents were, befriends Kurama, and fights Madara, Obito and Kaguya in the Fourth Great Ninja War. He and Sasuke end the war with one last fight at the Valley of the End, each losing an arm. Naruto becomes the Seventh Hokage, marries Hinata, and has two children, Boruto and Himawari. He is alive at the end of the manga.
